How to learn paramotor ?

Paramotor : Learn to fly

For your safety
you need to receive theoretical and practical paramotor training before flying.

Basic paramotor training is easy and only takes a week.

Never try to learn alone, without the supervision of an approved instructor !

The PPG is different from paragliding : You have to control the canopy and a powerful engine on your back !

You need to find a Powered Paraglider professional instructor : see Worldwide Adventure training centers listed under "international network".

A full training course takes about a week, depending on your aeronautic experience, your comfort level, your physical fitness ...

A standard course includes four (main) steps :

  1. controling the paraglider,
  2. safely using the engine,
  3. first flight and basic piloting instruction,
  4. safety procedures and enhanced training.

Using the paraglider

The first step consists of controling the
glider on the ground :

- foot launch,
- inflation of the canopy,
- brake control,
- wind characteristics ...

Sometimes your instructor will take you to the training hill for your first (but short) flight

What is important is to perfectly control the wing under different wind conditions, during inflation and kiting.

Safely using the engine

The second step consists of controling
engine and thrust on the ground :

  • engine control,
  • fueling and set-up procedure,
  • starting,
  • thrust control,
  • launching sequence with the thrust ...

During this stage instruction, you learn how to synchronise wing control + foot-launching + engine thrust + safety.

At this point, your "ground" school is finished.

1st flight & basic flight training

The third step is the one you have been waiting for...

Before this flight you should be able to perfectly control the paraglider
and the engine thrust during the take off simulation.

Gradually, with the help of a radio link with your instructor, you will learn to :

  • safely take off,
  • perform a smooth landing,
  • fly in straight line (300 ft altitude),
  • turn right and left,
  • control your altitude ...

In 10 to 20 flights you will be able to fly on your own, under the supervision of your instructor.

Safety & enhanced training

This last step will teach you now to fly safely in both normal and abnormal situations.

  • Weather conditions appreciation
  • High and low wind, launching and landing
  • Emergency procedures

In some countries you will have to get through a small examination
(basic aerodynamics, aeronautic rules, weather ...)

At the end stage, your instructor will deliver your pilots licence.
